Cosmetic dermatology & medical dermatology

We are board-certified dermatologists who practice cosmetic surgery and other cosmetic procedures, dermatologic surgery, and medical dermatology. Our focus is on the healthy and beauty of your skin. We use a patient-centered, customized skin care services to ensure natural-looking results.

Ablative skin rejuvenation is a procedure that stimulates collagen productions in the skin to improve the appearance of scarred, aged or sun-damaged skin.  Ablative fractional CO2 or Erbium: YAG lasers have the ability to remove microscopic zones of skin tissue. Areas of untouched skin between the treated columns allow for rapid healing and regeneration.  The treated columns stimulate the skin’s natural healing response, resulting in collagen production over time that rejuvenates the skin.  The skin appears refreshed, smoother and more youthful. Cosmetic results are seen over several weeks to months after treatment as the skin heals.

Your ablative skin rejuvenation procedure will be performed in the privacy of one of our own in-office suites.  When you come in for your consultation, we will analyze your skin and listen carefully to your goals and expectations to create a customized plan for improving the look of your skin.  Depending on the condition of your skin, we may recommend more than one treatment to obtain optimal results.

Botulinum neuromodulator injections are performed at Dermatology and Cosmetic Physicians by board certified dermatologists to reduce the appearance wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions, such as frown lines and crow’s feet.

Non-surgical injectable treatments like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin use a purified botulinum toxin that acts as a neuromodulator to relax the underlying facial muscles and soften the appearance of fine lines and dynamic wrinkles.  When injected into the muscle, the botulinum neuromodulator works to prevent excessive muscle contractions, which cause lines and wrinkles to disappear over time.  This helps to improve the appearance of existing wrinkles and prevents the formation of new ones.  Although several areas on the face and neck respond well to botulinum neuromodulator, it performs best on frown and forehead lines, fine lines around the eyes (crow’s feet), and the neck to lift and soften banding.

At Dermatology and Cosmetic Physicians, we strive to deliver the best possible injectable treatments.  When it comes to administering treatments such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, it takes a completely personalized approach and a trained hand to achieve beautifully balanced results without an overdone or unnatural appearance.  All injectable treatments are performed by board-certified dermatologists and we take our time with each patient to develop a customized plan for injectable treatments that will help maintain a naturally vibrant look for years to come.  Through careful technique, we minimize bruising to get our patients back to their day with minimal disruption.  If bruising occurs, our patients receive complimentary laser treatment to minimize its appearance.  AtDermatology and Cosmetic Physicians, your results and satisfaction are our priority.

Chemical peels have been shown to be helpful for a variety of common skin conditions including facial discoloration, acne, melasma, enlarged pores, and sun damage.  Although clinical improvement is expected after a single peel, the best cosmetic results are seen after a series of peels are performed at regular intervals.

At Dermatology and Cosmetic Physicians, we use several types of chemical peels to customize treatments based on your individual needs.  During your consultation, our physicians will closely evaluate the skin and listen to your concerns.  It is important to personalize each peel to the specific condition and skin type.  Prior to treatment, the skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove any dirt or makeup.  A personalized chemical solution is then applied to the targeted areas of your skin which initiates the peeling process.

Depending on the depth of your peel, you may feel a mild stinging sensation to a more intense burning sensation for 5-10 minutes during the peel.  A fan or cooling device is provided for your comfort.  After the peel, your physician will provide you with specific skin care instructions to use during the healing period. It is important to follow all post-peel instructions as outlined by your physician to ensure rapid healing and the best results.

Peeling will normally occur over the course of 3-14 days as the old skin cells are shed to reveal a  renewed layer of skin.  To maintain that healthy “glow,” your physician may suggest chemical peels at regular intervals to keep the skin looking its best.

At Dermatology and Cosmetic Physicians, we are dedicated to helping you see a slimmer you!  With CoolSculpting®, you can eliminate stubborn fat without surgery or downtime and look great from every angle.

CoolSculpting® is a revolutionary, non-surgical procedure created by Harvard scientists that uses a process known as cryolipolysis to freeze and remove stubborn fat cells.  It delivers precisely controlled cooling to gently and effectively target the fat cells underneath the skin while leaving the skin itself intact.  The treated fat cells crystallize then gradually self-destruct. Over time, the body’s natural processes remove the fat which results in a long-term, more sculpted appearance at the treated site.  CoolSculpting® is best for stubborn fat on the abdomen, love handles, back, inner and outer thighs and a double chin.

Choosing Dermatology and Cosmetic Physicians is a simple choice. We combine unsurpassed expertise with meticulous attention to detail, your privacy, and comfort.  Dr. Steffes and the professionals at Dermatology and Cosmetic Physicians are at the forefront of CoolSculpting® treatments.

In addition to traditional CoolSculpting® applicators we offer the CoolMini applicator for treating smaller, harder-to-reach pockets of fat, such as under the chin, above the knees, and around the armpits.

All of our CoolSculpting® consultations and treatments are performed in our state-of-the-art office for maximum privacy and comfort.  During the consultation with a board-certified dermatologist, we will assess your areas of concern and determine if you are a good candidate for treatment.  Dermatology and Cosmetic Physicians has the most advanced CoolSculpting® hand pieces available including CoolMini™, CoolSmooth Pro™, and CoolAdvantage™, which can treat unwanted fat in a fraction of the time of traditional hand pieces.  Also, with multiple CoolSculpting® devices available in our clinic, we offer DualSculpting to treat multiple areas in half the time.

During your treatment, a gel pad and applicator are placed on the targeted area. You may feel pulling, tugging and mild pinching at the beginning of the treatment.  Controlled cooling is then delivered to the targeted fat layer.  The sensation of cold during treatment usually subsides after five to ten minutes as the treatment area becomes numb.  At this point, most patients will read, check email, watch a movie, or just take a nap. After CoolSculpting®, most patients can return to normal activities right away.  Results are seen 4 weeks after treatment, with the most dramatic changes seen after three months.

As we age, our faces lose fat and the overlying skin can start to appear hollow, older, and show more lines and wrinkles.  Dermal fillers can restore volume, balance, symmetry, plump up thin lips, improve the appearance of scars, and rejuvenate your eyes and cheeks.
At Dermatology and Cosmetic Physicians, we use several types of dermal fillers to achieve your goals.  During your consultation, our physicians will closely evaluate your skin and listen to your concerns.

Our Most Popular Dermal Fillers Include:

  • Restylane– Restylane is a dermal filler made with hyaluronic acid that smoothes away facial wrinkles and folds and provides subtle lip enhancement.
  • Juvederm Voluma –Juvederm Voluma is a dermal filler used to add volume to correct age-related volume loss in your cheeks to create a more youthful appearance.
  • BeloteroBalance – Belotero Balance is a dermal filler used to smooth superficial lines and wrinkles on your face and lips.
  • Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne are enhanced elastic fillers offering superior flexibility and support for natural-appearing improvement in areas of high facial movement.

Additional filler options for the lips include Juvederm Ultra and Restylane Silk. These fillers add more fullness and plump thin lips—whether your lips have thinned over time or you simply want fuller lips.

Dermal fillers are great for those with moderate wrinkles or volume loss and can be a great way to put off more invasive procedures like a facelift.  Dermal fillers can also be combined with neuromodulators such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin to further enhance your appearance.  Neuromodulators and fillers work in different ways to restore balance, symmetry, and beauty.

Can you halt skin aging? No. But now you can slow it down using revolutionary BroadBand light (BBL) technology.

This advanced light device consists of visible and infrared wavelengths to gently reduce discoloration and broken capillaries while stimulating collagen to help slow the aging process.  Long-term clinical studies show that patients who received regular BBL treatments over the course of a decade looked eleven years younger than their actual age!

The Sciton BBL device is a highly sophisticated technology that is customized by the physicians at Dermatology and Cosmetic Physicians to deliver ideal results for each patient.

During the treatment, you may feel a sudden, warm sensation as the light is being absorbed in the skin.  Treatment typically takes between fifteen and thirty minutes, depending on the treatment area. Because BBL is a non-invasive and gentle procedure, there is little to no recovery time. In most cases, patients can return to daily activities immediately.

After treatment, gradual improvement in appearance is seen in as little as one week. However, the best overall results are observed with regular treatments to keep the skin looking and feeling its best.

Scar formation is a natural part of the healing process.  Whether a scar is a result of trauma, surgery or some other type of injury, it isn’t always the most welcome feature on your skin.  Visible scars can act as a constant reminder of an injury or an event you’d rather forget, or they can simply be distracting from what you want others to see when they look at you. Fortunately, there is an answer to unwanted scars.

Over the past decade, lasers and other devices have revolutionized the way we treat scars.  Surgical, traumatic, hypertrophic (thick and red), hypopigmented (white), hyperpigmented (brown), burn, and acne scars may all benefit from treatment.  Dr. Burt Steffes is a leader in the field of laser scar revision. He has developed specific techniques to dramatically fade and reduce the appearance of scars.

At Dermatology and Cosmetic Physicians, Dr. Steffes utilizes multiple modalities for scar revision.  These techniques include prescription injectables, dermabrasion, microneedling, vascular lasers, and fractionated ablative laser.  Dr. Steffes will choose the most appropriate treatment for your scar based on his vast experience and combine therapies as needed to deliver the most rapid, aesthetically pleasing results.

Microneedling has become a very popular treatment in aesthetic medicine because of its versatility, rapid recovery and high patient satisfaction.  Microneedling has been shown in multiple studies to improve wrinkles, sun damaged skin, scars, and stretch marks.

During the treatment, an advanced hand-held device with tiny microneedles is used to create controlled micro-injuries within the skin to stimulate the natural healing response.  As a result, there is an increase in collagen and elastin production as well as growth factors within the skin.  Over time, the skin looks brighter, smoother, softer and more vibrant.  Microneedling treatments can be used to improve sun damaged skin, fine lines, and wrinkles, stretch marks, and scars.

At Dermatology and Cosmetic Physicans, our board-certified dermatologists perform microneedling treatments.  During your microneedling consultation, we listen to your concerns to develop a personalized approach to target your specific skin needs.  Our physicians expertly tailor the treatment by adjusting the depth based on particular skin needs, location, and the skin condition being treated.

Microneedling treatments are quick and require minimal downtime.  The treatment feels like a vibration or, in certain areas, similar to sandpaper gliding over the skin.  Immediately after the treatment, the skin is moderately pink.  Makeup can be applied the morning after treatment.  The total healing time depends on the depth of treatment and number of passes performed.  On average, the treated skin is pink for one to three days. Within a week, most patients already notice a “glow” to their skin.  Depending on your unique concerns, we may recommend a series of three to four microneedling sessions at four to six-week intervals.  Once your desired result is achieved, one or two maintenance treatments each year can help to keep your skin looking healthy and refreshed.

Spider veins on the legs can be improved by an in-office procedure called sclerotherapy.  This treatment works best to treat the small purple and red broken blood vessels on the legs and thighs.

Sclerotherapy involves injecting these vessels with a small amount of sclerosant solution which irritates the lining of the vessels and causes them to shrink and eventually disappear.  These vessels are not essential and become absorbed by the body in time.

Sclerotherapy involves multiple small injections of liquid into the vessels. Most patients report little or no discomfort during the treatment.  After treatment, the vessels will have a bruised and swollen appearance, which can last for two to three weeks.  Compression stockings may be prescribed by your physician.  Multiple treatment sessions are usually required for the best results.
